I am not given to issuing statements about my work as they seem too categorical and restricting. If asked how I am inspired I reply “by my watercolour box which when I open it am faced by a waiting orchestra without a score. We have to work it out together”.
I would most liken my work then to that of a modern jazz musician in detached mood, particularly Miles Davis by just an ‘on the road’ endeavour to embody discoveries arising from a conversation with the notes themselves can generate a simple sound from even the very distant haunts of human experience.
My Painting are portals to such realms in shape, line and colour. I would wish them to hang quietly resisting account in the hope that the viewer may be drawn into the intrigue of a journey into the unfamiliar.
